One of the things that I noticed when I first transitioned to a Zero Waste lifestyle (which side note, how was that nearly a decade ago now?? Time flies!!) was how much waste comes along with conventional beauty and personal care products. Between the tubes, bottles, sprays, aerosol cans, and other packaging, beauty routines can be pretty ugly for the planet. That’s why I stopped buying and started making a lot of my own products.
And before you think, “I don’t have the time for that!”, trust me, doing it yourself can be quick and easy.
You can make large quantities at a time, control the ingredients you are putting in and on your body, save money, AND save lots and lots AND LOTS of unnecessary packaging waste. Not to mention, it’s also fun!

Toothpaste
Not only is making your own toothpaste easier than pronouncing the ingredient list on the back of a conventional store bought tube, but you are also doing the earth a favor. You are keeping a tube of toothpaste that is difficult or impossible to recycle out of a landfill!

Deodorant
When I transitioned to a plastic free and zero waste lifestyle I stopped using store bought deodorant. This was for many reasons but the main reasons were the packing, the ingredients, and the fact that the natural version was less expensive and worked really well.
