One of the most common questions I get is how to shop in bulk or package free. In this series of videos you will learn how to tare your jars to buy bulk, how to buy liquids in bulk, and how to buy solids in bulk so that you can be prepared to go shopping zero waste.
IMPORTANT: very often I hear that people feel uncomfortable trying to buy things package free because they are afraid the people will look at them like they are weird, or challenge them. Well, guess what, Zero Waste is NOT the norm and it is likely that people might not know what you are doing.
EMBRACE IT!: If someone looks at you when you try to shop Zero Waste, it is most likely because you are the first person that they have ever seen shopping that way and they don’t know what you are doing, it’s not that they think you are weird. Take this as an opportunity to educate someone or reach out to them and explain what you are doing in a positive way. Remember, the more you shop package free, the more common it will become for stores and other shoppers and the more comfortable others will feel doing it. I believe in living my values, and so I am never afraid of looking different from others, I embrace it!
YOUR ONE STOP SHOP: And lucky for you, I recently opened a store, Package Free Shop to make it easier for anyone and everyone to transition into a low, or zero waste lifestyle. You can shop all my favorite items online here, or if you’re in NYC, stop by our shop at 137 Grand Street Brooklyn NY, 11249

Any tips on shopping package free when you have trouble buying flour and other things in bulk groceries?
I have a severe peanut allergy and normally can’t get anything from the bulk section because of contamination by them putting different things into one container over time.
For example one week they have almonds, the next week they have peanuts in the same bin.
I have tried getting flour before and had allergic reaction when I used the flour later on.
Any tips or hacks that I might be missing.
I was curious about any tips you had about shopping zero waste when there are literally no shops available to shop from.
I live in a rural midwestern town and even though I want to start reducing my waste I don’t know where to start since I don’t really have those opportunities.
I’d appreciate any help.
What company do you purchase your coconut oil from? I have yet to find a brand that doesn’t have a plastic seal.
Hi! What store is this in New York?
